After reading Jive's most recent show, here, I got to thinking about Herbie Hughes' character direction...
If you guys haven't noticed, when I post for my characters, I role-play how I believe they would react in the positions they are put in rather than how I want them to. They pretty much write themselves, so sometimes I can't explain their reasoning for why they do certain things other than, that's just how they are. For example, I've been disagreeing for sometime with Jive over whether or not Herbie Hughes can have a match with whoever is attacking him. The current story-line, if you haven't been reading, is Herbie Hughes has not been medically cleared to compete in the ring by his doctors, so he has been put in a interviewer role for the time being while he waits to see if he will be cleared or forced to retire. Unfortunately for Hughes, ever since he has been put in the role, he is being attacked by a mysterious attacker. The fact that someone is out to get him when he is vulnerable, mixed with the fact that he isn't cleared to compete has really been bruising Herbie's ego as of late. I guess he figures people are forgetting what he is capable of and puts a chip on his shoulder because his career was put on hold before it could really even take off. So rather than take a beating and go off to lick his wounds, Hughes is going to keep coming back for more. He doesn't care about his health. All he cares about is getting the guy back who tried to take him out. Apparently that guy could be either Kahuna or Block Vander, and Herbie Hughes has attacked both of them. I'm expecting Block Vander or Kahuna to retaliate, but what I want is not just a retaliation, but an actual match!
Whoa, whoa, but Hughes isn't cleared to compete! He could never be booked in a match that could risk his career! Well I say the hell with that, and why the hell can't he? In Herbie Hughes' mind, nothing will stop him from getting his hands on the person responsible for attacking him, and the only way to stop Hughes is to put him down for good. A match like this can't even be called a match. It's a fight. An unsanctioned fight. At the PPV, Hughes wants to show up, on the card or not, and he is going to find whoever attacked him, and he is going to beat the living hell out of them, regardless of the dangers he might face. And in a perfect world, I'm sure I would like to state that Hughes would have a chance of winning a fight like this, but it isn't about winning...it's about Hughes proving a point to himself. If he's going to to go out, he wants to go out swinging, and he's going to take the other bastard out with him if he can...
So that's what's leading me toward Hughes vs Kahuna. We don't know for sure whether or not Kahuna is responsible for the attack, but if he is, Kahuna becomes an instant heel, because he is trying to redeem himself to a an evil bitch in Kimona, and if he isn't responsible it paints a better picture of kahuna being a victim and being forced to fight Hughes and possibly end the career of a potential friend in Herbie Hughes. Hell, and if Kahuna isn't responsible, and the guy that is shows up later, it'd be a perfect way to give nuclear heat if his actions lead to Kahuna being forced to takeout Hughes, against his will, because the guy responsible was too much of a chicken shit heel to come out and say it was him all along who first attacked Hughes.
I wanna see kendo sticks, chair shots, thumbtacks, handcuffs, guitar shots...fucking everything you can imagine in a fight between Hughes and Kahuna. Make the stipulation be if Kahuna can't take out Hughes for good, he will be fired and Hughes will only sign for the match, because he believes or knows it is Kahuna that attacked him. Call it a Hughes Last Standing match, lol!
